Citizens have gathered across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the Second World War.

Israel responded by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed official memorials until 16 October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of people killed in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams met in the North African Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the terms of the agreement.

A senior representative involved in the discussions revealed that an evening round of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the day's discussions ended without significant progress, because of disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the discussions are "difficult and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to close the differences between the both parties.

Key Points in Discussions

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the hostages still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict governance of the region

Civilian Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member endured the attack on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location seems like home now and until all the hostages are released no one will be secure."

"When we see everybody home again, we can breathe once more. Then we can start to recover," she added.

Outside the leader's home in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel says forty-eight remain in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that around 70% of Israeli citizens want the conflict to finish in as payment for the release of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of Nova festival, grieving people gathered to pay their respects.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the severe Israeli bombardment carried on.

In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side neighborhood, area and Nasr areas and in the eastern area of the community, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the evening arrives, the fear comes with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose young son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my little child who puts his face on me all night."

"Every second we check the updates to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will resume to us."

Medical Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had accepted the bodies of several people by the afternoon, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the south region of the city said another two fatalities had been brought there. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while seeking aid to the south, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
