The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."
His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he began working on ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London last month in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
