19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned victory with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
