R360 Players Face 10-Season Exclusion from National Rugby League

Australian rugby league's administration has announced that athletes who enter the “counterfeit” R360 league will be banned for a decade.

The new league, which plans to launch in October 2026, is seeking to lure rugby union and rugby league players with hefty contracts and a slimmed-down game calendar.

Top National Rugby League players have reportedly received offers by the breakaway group, which will involve multiple men's sides and women's teams operating from large metropolitan areas around the world.

Samoa's Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who is with New Zealand Warriors in the competition, has confirmed he has had talks with the breakaway league.

Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Gray are also believed to be weighing up offers from the new competition.

A group of union countries, including Australia, earlier imposed a ban on athletes signing with R360 playing global fixtures.

“We have consulted our franchises and we've taken firm action,” said the league's head the official.

“Unfortunately, there will persistently exist organizations that seek to pirate our game for economic benefit.

“They don't invest in talent pipelines or the growth of athletes. They merely capitalize on the hard work of existing bodies, endangering athletes of economic hardship while profiting themselves.

“They are, in reality, imitating the sport.”

The league is launched by ex-England star Tindall and funded by independent financiers.

After the potential rugby union bans were revealed last week, it said: “We seek to cooperate together as a component of the worldwide fixture list.

“The event is designed with customized calendars for men's and women's teams and R360 will release all players for test matches, as specified in their contracts.”

The breakaway group will seek approval for its initiatives from rugby union's governing body, the sport's administrative organization, at its official gathering next year.
