Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician has been charged with committing assaults against 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous sexual offences – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A senior CPS official commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

The charging documents outline the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
