England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.

The ex- New Zealand seamer is expected to be available for the opening match because of his participation in the International League T20 competition, which begins on 2 December in the UAE.

The 36-year-old, aged 36, took up a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.

Speaking as the English squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was named, he said of his participation: "We're still working through the situation at the present time.

"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."

English pace icon Broad had stated the Australia team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on November 21.

"In my view there's at any time a bad Aussie side," Southee remarked.

"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the caliber of [the English] side that's going out to the host country is excellent.

"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not just [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

However, prior to the English team head to Perth for the opening Ashes Test, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on Saturday.
